" RIVER CAT " Ferry on Sydney Harbour. Art photo digital download and wallpaper screensaver. DIY Print.
Sydney CBD skyline including the Sydney Opera House with the newer Fast River Cat Ferry in the foreground.
Photograph was taken from a boat on Sydney Harbour.
More than 14 million people cross-cross Sydney Harbour by ferry every year, chugging out from the main hub of Circular Quay to head west up the Parramatta River, north on the legendary voyage to Manly or east to Watsons Bay. It’s a well-known fact that when Sydneysiders want to drink and dine in Balmain, shop in Double Bay, sightsee at Taronga Zoo or camp convict-style at Cockatoo Island, Ferry is the only way to fly.
All up, there are 28 Sydney ferries (from the stately old-schoolers Freshwater, Lady, First Fleet models to the sleek, fast catamaran fleet of RiverCats, HarbourCats and SuperCats) connecting Sydneysiders with 29 Ferry wharves across 37km of Harbour.Australiaawsomebeautifulblueblue skybridgecoastalcoat hangerdawndawn nauticaldaybreakdesktop photodesktop wallpaperdesktop wallpaper photodigitaldownloadgeoff childsharbor bridgeharbourhorizoniconimagemarinescapenauticalNew South Walesno peopleNSW.operaopera housepanoramaphotophotographypicturesscenescenicscreensaverscreensaver photoseaseascapeskysunnypicsoz.comSydneySydney HarbourSydney iconSydney Opera HouseviewwallpaperwaterwaterfrontwaterscapeSydney CBDcityoutdoorsover waterskylinefast ferryRiver Cat

Entering the Peaceful Bantry Bay.
Today the protected waters of Bantry Bay contains eight courtesy boat moorings and is a a very popular destination with the weekend boating public.
The Bantry Bay Explosives Magazine Complex is located in Garigal National Park and managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. The Complex occupies an area of around 14 hectares on both the eastern and western shores of the bay and consists of numerous buildings, seawalls, tram lines, wharves, slipways, tracks, dams, and other above-surface remains as well as a number of archaeological sites. It is an important but little known part of the cultural, and natural, heritage of Sydney.
Bantry Bay is part of the traditional lands of the Guringai/Gai-Mariagal Aboriginal people. The Guringai/Gai-Mariagal people made extensive use of the area for tens of thousands of years prior to the arrival of European settlers. Numerous rock engraving sites and shell middens, some dated to at least 4,600 years old, can still be seen in the area today as tangible evidence of this Aboriginal past. It is likely that Aboriginal people continued to use the area for fishing and shellfish collecting until they were gradually dispossessed by European settlement and disease.
European use of this area in the early 1800s initially focussed on lime burning, fishing, oyster gathering and wood cutting. The pioneer of the area, Constable and Crown Lands Ranger James French (after whom Frenchs Forest is named), started the first local timber industry around 1856. He located his sawmill on the hill above Bantry Bay, and made a track for his bullock team to drag the wood down to a wharf, from where it was shipped to Sydney. This “Old Bullock Track” remains today, with cobbles, culverts and the remains of a stone bridge visible amongst the bushland.7233z393.0rw2Australiaawsomebeautifulblueblue skybridgecoastalcoat hangerdawndawn nauticaldaybreakdesktop photodesktop wallpaperdesktop wallpaper photodigitaldownloadgeoff childsharbor bridgeharbourhorizoniconimagemarinescapenauticalNew South Walesno peopleNSW.operaopera housepanoramaphotophotographypicturesscenescenicscreensaverscreensaver photoseaseascapeskysunnypicsoz.comSydneySydney HarbourSydney iconviewwallpaperwaterwaterfrontwaterscape

Quarantine Beach
Quarantine Beach , North Harbour, Sydney.
Quarantine Beach is named after the old Quarantine Station which operated from 1828-1984, and was the first port of call for all quarantined ships and their passengers. Today it is part of the Sydney Harbour National Park. Its buildings are used for conferences and guided tours are conducted of the Station. The beach is 200 m long, faces northwest into North Harbour, and is hemmed in by rocks at each end, together with a seawall and wharf at the southern end and is also home to a nearby Fairy Penguin rookery.
Not many years ago, Little or Fairy Penguins were quite common on Sydney Beaches, and people living on the northern beaches actually used to place chicken wire underneath their houses to keep them out; subsequently they no longer nest there. Today, only two colonies survive, one on Lion Island in Broken Bay and the other at Store Beach, Manly. Senior citizens recall camping on Store Beach and remember them marching through their tents at night.
In 1952 there were a number of penguin colonies in the Manly area totalling about 500 birds. 300 birds were shot in the 1950s and their numbers have slowly been depleted by dogs alighting from boats, pollution and the advent of jet skis (these have been subsequently banned on Sydney Harbour). By 2000, the population had fallen to only 65 breeding pairs and less than 150 birds. When dogs destroyed the Little Penguin colony at Eden, those at Manly and Broken Bay became the last breeding colonies of Little Penguins on the mainland of NSW. Steps have been taken by concerned residents wildlife preservation groups and Government bodies to protect the Manly colony.7389z39cc2rw2temp4600Australiaawsomebeachbeachscapebeautifulblueblue skyboatboatingboatsbridgecoastalcoat hangerdawndaybreakdesktop photodesktop wallpaperdesktop wallpaper photodigitaldownloadgeoff childsharbourhorizonimagemarinescapenauticalNew South WalesNSW.panoramaphotophotographypicturesQuarantine Beachscenescenicscreensaverscreensaver photoseaseascapeskysunnypicsoz.comSydneySydney HarbourviewwallpaperwaterwaterfrontwaterscapePenguinFairy Penguinquarantine

Amiralty House water front view.
Admiralty House is the official Sydney residence of the Governor-General of Australia. It is located in the suburb of Kirribilli, on the northern foreshore of Sydney Harbour (adjacent to Kirribilli House, which is the Sydney residence of the Australian Prime Minister). This large, Italianate, sandstone mansion occupies the tip of Kirribilli Point. Once known as "Wotonga", it has commanding views across Sydney Harbour to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.
Its current name originates in the fact that it served as the residence for the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Navy's Australia Squadron from 1885 to 1913.6333z472.0Australiaawsomebeautifulblueblue skybridgecoastalcoat hangerdawndawn nauticaldaybreakdesktop photodesktop wallpaperdesktop wallpaper photodigitaldownloadgeoff childsharbor bridgeharbourhorizoniconimagemarinescapenauticalNew South Walesno peopleNSW.operaopera housepanoramaphotophotographypicturesscenescenicscreensaverscreensaver photoseaseascapeskysunnypicsoz.comSydneySydney HarbourSydney iconviewwallpaperwaterwaterfrontwaterscapearchitecturelandscapegreen grassgreen treesheritage listedPalm treeAdmiralty HouseGovner General
Fort Denison, in Sydney Harbour also known as "Pinchgut Island". Original photo art.
Located in Sydney Harbour, Fort Denison, also known as "Pinchgut", is one of Sydney's historic landmarks.
When the First Fleet arrived in 1788, Fort Denison was a steep, rocky island known to the Aboriginal people as Mat-te-wan-ye and was a popular fishing place for local tribes. The name "Pinchgut" arose soon after, as convicts who had committed of secondary crimes were charged and confined on the island, with rations of bread and water.
